About Us

Welcome to our website!

We would like to say a big warm hello! We are Claire & Gemma and we own JA Performing Arts.

We are sisters originally from Clacton who took over JA Performing Arts in 2015. Our Performing Arts and Dance school is a family orientated as it is exactly that, a family! Our Mum, Jackie, founded the dance school in 1988 – we never remember a time without the school!  We have always been hard workers, from working for Mum at the school on a Saturday morning, to now owning the school, we will NEVER be happy to sit back!  Our promise is to always give our students the best opportunities we can.

So here is a little more about our roles at JA, Claire will always be your first and foremost point of contact for messages, emails and telephone calls – there aren’t many questions Claire cannot answer! Claire has many years of experience as PA/Secretary and has managed our office since 2008.

Gemma heads up the teaching team with her wealth of performing and teaching experience. Gemma has taught for JA for many years (too many to remember!) and she cannot imagine doing anything else!

We feel lucky that our strengths are in these fields as together we make a strong and driven team, who only want what is best for our parents and students.

Miss Jackie (our mum, founder of JA) guest teaches our adult ballet and pointe work classes. Even though Miss Jackie is now retired we are very lucky that she guest teaches our adult ballet classes.

Our teaching team is selected for their experience, skill set and to join ‘a family’ not just to have a job within the school.

It is so important to us that you and your child have the most positive experience with us, from the very first enquiry through to joining our school and becoming part of our JA family. Our past students come back time and time again, many even attending our adult classes!

We offer specialist dance training for Boys and Girls from the age of 2 years upwards in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Drama, Hip Hop/Street and Musical Theatre.

We like to think we are a little more than a dance school. From our tiny tots, to getting our seniors ready for college auditions, we want to make sure students are treated with respect, dignity & nurtured into the performers they were meant to be. Quality is exceptionally important to us. Many of our former students have gone on to train at Vocational colleges such as Arts Ed, The Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama and Laine Theatre Arts to name a few.

We ensure our students are given many opportunities to perform, they will also work towards ISTD Examinations in their chosen genres but if your son/daughter would like to just come along for “fun” then that’s OK too!

We also provide adult classes in Tap and Ballet, which prove to be super popular!

All classes are held in our impressive purpose-built Studios in Clacton.

If you have any questions at all, please pop us a message and Claire will happily answer any questions you may have.  We are always here to help!

We hope to see you soon

My granddaughter goes to JA & absolutely loves it. During lockdown she had zoom classes, she looked forward to these classes every week. JA Performing arts is a wonderful, friendly, family feel place that I would always recommend.

I'm so glad that my daughter is getting such a fabulous experience: lessons, workshops, biannual showcase and internationally recognised grades. Thanks to all at JA

Tracey Ann, parent

My daughter started with JA when she was 3 until she was 18. She performed in some amazing shows, where they all worked so hard but enjoyed every moment, she absolutely loved her JA family.

Louise Sheriff, Parent

Kirra really enjoys going to dance and looks forward to it each week because it is an extremely friendly and welcoming group. If she has had a bad day at school, after dance she feels significantly better.
