At JA Performing Arts, Clacton we hold we hold Drama classes from 7 years through to senior level.
Drama is a fun, expressive and exciting genre of the Performing Arts. It focuses on improvisation, concentration exercises and script work.
Drama is a great way to encourage learners to be more confident in class and builds friendships within the group. We work on scripts from shows and work on improvisational skills. Our Drama classes are lots of fun and we enjoy watching great teamwork and friendships develop without our Drama classes.
7 – 11 years
We focus on learning to warm up our voices, diction, character building and script work. It is important for the students to start to make their own decisions and we encourage all the creativity we can in each class! This class is fast-paced, energetic and really helps the children with self-belief and confidence too.
12- 14 years
We always make sure we are ready for lessons, building on improvisation skills, sometimes disguised and fun, quick-paced games. This age group can, at times, need a little more assurance when participating in Drama lessons. We are incredibly positive and always explain students can take everything at their own pace. As a family orientated school, everyone is genuinely supportive, and barriers are broken down very quickly! We look at acting for film, Musical Theatre scripts and various plays. We give students the opportunity to work on their acting skills in a safe, nurturing and most importantly fun environment!
14 + years
We aim to give the students in this age bracket a wide range of material. We will focus on acting through song a little more with this age group, this is encouraged in small groups, duets and trios. We explore acting for film with slightly more mature themes. Students are encouraged to bring ideas to the session which allows us to workshop everyone’s ideas, whilst giving the students a safe place to share ideas and interests. We also focus on audition technique with the older student, if they would like to audition for further or higher education.
If your child is interested in our drama lessons but you still have some questions, just pop us a message – our team is here to help.
