At JA Performing Arts, Clacton we hold we hold Musical Theatre classes from 4 years through to senior level.
Musical Theatre is a fusion of singing, acting, and dance and covers a wide spectrum of West End and Broadway Musicals from Mean Girls to Matilda!
Our classes prepare the Students for theatrical performances in our large scale shows and Musical Theatre Showcases. Our structured classes enable our students to have a real creative input in their sessions and builds on friendships and confidence.
4 – 7 years
We focus on the fun! From improvising different characters to singing our favourite Disney songs in a group setting, we really do have a fantastic time. We teach even our tiniest of students how to vocally and physically warm up so they learn how to keep safe and healthy!
8 – 11 years
We focus on developing our student’s creativity. We make sure that we encourage self led rehearsing and working as a real part of a team. After all, Performing Arts is a real team effort, whatever your role! All Musicals focussed on will be age appropriate, this making it easier for the students to base their characters and choices on real life people or situations. We also encourage students to try and perform on their own in a mini-performance at the end of classes, to build confidence and give them a great sense of achievement.
12 – 14 years
We now start to look at really developing vocal technique and characterisation. We are passionate that all of our students are welcoming and friendly to our newest members of the group. They also quite like to show new friends ‘the ropes!’ This class is perfect for children that are starting their new hobby as it really brings out the fun in Performing Arts. As in all classes, we work on age-appropriate Musical Theatre, but try to explore relevant and current themes, opening up discussion from children’s own experiences and using these as a starting point for Character work. From “13 the musical” there is something for everyone.
15 + years
This age group focuses on their vocal technique and acting through song. Whether this is as a group or, if a student feels comfortable enough, as a soloist. We use confidence and team building exercises to make sure everyone is feeling relaxed and energised at the start of each class. We will always engage with the students and push them to the best of their ability, whilst remembering this age is very transitional, so a close working relationship between the students and the team is always paramount. Our students have performed in many shows and performances and we will always choose suitable material for them that is within their range. We also assist with college auditions, whether this is at Further or Higher Education. However… the main aim is to shake off the day and immerse themselves in a fun, engaging 45 minutes!
We also hold classes in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Drama, Hip Hop/Street, Adult Tap and Adult Ballet.
